Done. Almost. Sorta

Friday, December 07, 2007

I ran out of tape, so I had to stop wrapping. But the good news is we are almost done. Now all we have to do is put up the Christmas Tree. So, uhhmm, any idea how we get a Christmas tree and a puppy to live in harmony?

Your puppy and your tree will live in harmony if you use a water bottle. Spray her when she starts to mess with it. (That's what I do. Except I spray my puppy, not yours.)

NoSammyNo doesn't bother our tree - she likes to lay on the tree skirting, but that's about it. I say put the tree up - with limited decorations at first and see how it goes - if she leaves it alone, add the others.

Christmas trees and puppies? I dunno. Baby gates?

Here's the trick...I have one mommy and four kittens...they're not mobile yet, but will be soon...WTF will my tree look like?

If the tree's big enough, the puppy won't bother it. And in the beginning, every time he goes under it or near it, smack him firmly on his nose and say, in a loud, clear voice, "No!".

Our dog doesn't care about the tree but she wants to open the presents. She's pretty sure bows are doggy toys and she steals them so that we chase her idiotically through the house saying things like "drop that bow right now," which transleted into dog means, "isn't this a fun game you came up with all on your own, you genius dog".

Funny you should mention the dog and tree. I was walking mine down the street and he proceeded to hike his leg on a tree outside a store front. Thank goodness I don't speak German yet.

Our 7 kids, their 5 Aunts and Uncles and associated cousins, grandparents (step and natural), close friends, teachers and so on, AND what Santa brought, nearly sent us broke each year.

Oh, and we found a water bottle and a few well timed sprays with it ensured that our Christmas tree was safe from a crawling kid intent on get at some of the decorations/gifts. So I guess it'll work on a puppy.

Okay, I am still shopping, haven't even begun wrapping. If I send mine to you, with lots of tape, will you wrap them?

With the tree and dog, I wouldn't put any balls at the bottom.

There is no way to do it. You'll have to put the puppy down.

Wow you've done well! Part of the joy of the Christmas season is seeing the presents under the tree and trying to guess what's inside them without touching. It's great for the suspense!

As for the puppy and the tree - don't hang dangly decorations near the bottom of the tree and keep the lights up higher too. If you can put a cover over the cords for the lights too, that will keep the puppy from accidentally pulling them out or chewing on them!

Good luck, and I'd love to see photos of the tree once it's up!

No, but if you figure it out, let me know. We have already taken several ornaments out of her mouth.

DO NOT USE TINSEL! I have had this problem. While hilarious, it is NOT good. Puppy sees shiney thing and eats it, then part of it hangs from his mouth and part of it from his butt. As great it may seem, it is not a good idea to pull the tinsel from either end because it is sharp and causes little paper like tinsel cuts all through said puppy. Lesson learned? Check!
